From UHGLS to galaxy clusters and Seyferts

Ken Pounds, Leicester University

First results from the Ariel 5 all-sky survey reported at the 8th Texas Symposium on Relativistic Astrophysics in 1976 substantially increased the number of X-ray sources identified with galaxy clusters and established powerful X-ray emission as a characteristic property of Seyfert galaxies. The talk looks back on the evolving X-ray study of AGN which has been a major research interest shared with Andy Fabian over the subsequent 3 decades.
